About MedCycle
Our Story: From Waste to Wellness
When I first set up MedCycle, my vision was focused solely on protecting the environment. I assumed that most of the donated medicines would be expired and require safe disposal. But to my surprise, we also received a significant amount of unused, unexpired medicine which could benefit those with limited access to medical provisions.
I saw this as an opportunity to broaden the scope of MedCycle. Partnering with charitable clinics and NGOs, MedCycle is ensuring that the usable medicines reach those who truly need them. With this step, MedCycle has expanded its impact beyond the environment to also making a difference in people's lives.
Our Mission & Vision
Mission
MedCycle aims to improve access to essential medicines for charitable clinics, NGOs, and individuals in need. We do this by creating a bridge between surplus and scarcity, while promoting safe, sustainable practices.
Vision
We envision a world where every medicine serves its maximum purpose—either healing a patient or being safely returned to nature. Where healthcare equity and environmental sustainability go hand in hand.
Our Impact & the Crisis We Address
In 2019, Indian State Boards reported that the country generated over 619 tons of biomedical waste per day, but only around 500 tons were treated, leaving more than 100 tons of untreated waste daily. The COVID-19 pandemic likely intensified this crisis.
Simultaneously, millions of people across India lack access to essential medicines due to economic constraints. This creates a paradox: surplus medicine going to waste while people suffer from treatable conditions.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
MedCycle aligns with three key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing
We improve access to essential medicine for underserved communities, ensuring that quality healthcare reaches those who need it most.
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
We operate without bias, bridging the healthcare gap regardless of financial background, caste, religion, or geography.
SDG 13: Climate Action
By ensuring proper disposal of expired medicines, we reduce pharmaceutical pollution and environmental harm to our ecosystems.
How We Work
Collect
We accept donations of unused and expired medicines from households and clinics.
Sort & Verify
Our team carefully verifies and sorts medicines into usable and expired categories.
Distribute or Dispose
Usable medicines go to those in need. Expired medicines go to certified biomedical waste facilities.
Our Core Values
Compassion
We believe everyone deserves access to healthcare regardless of economic status.
Sustainability
Environmental protection and responsible resource use guide all our decisions.
Transparency
We operate with complete transparency about where medicines go and how they're used.
Community
We build a movement where every individual can make a difference.
